An International Festival “Moscow open 2008”, which is held in Moscow enters the closing stage. The games of the 7th round are played today.

At the main tournament of the Festival “Open A” we have 3 leaders who scored 6 points after 7 rounds. They are the Champion between Juniors Ivan Popov, the Russian Cup holder Artyom Timofeev and the finalist of the World Cup in quick chess Ernesto Inarkiev who has won 6 games in succession. They are all from Russia. Timofeev and Inarkiev have won Alexander Rizantsev (Russia) and Zahar Efimenko (Ukraine), who had been playing successfully at the first half of the Tournament. Popov has won Vadim Zvjaginsev (Russia) who played in the national team of Russia. 9 players are behind the leaders in a half point.

A rare occurrence for this kind of Tournaments has happened in one of the games between the nearest pursuers of the leaders Alexander Moiseenko and Andrei Kharitonov. The phone of Kharitonov who played black rang. The arbitrator fixed his defeat according to FIDE rules.

In the 8th round Inarkiev will play white against Popov, Timofeev will play black against Alexander Motylev (Russia).

At the women’s tournament Anna Muzychuk, the defending Europe blitz champion from Slovenia has come out on top. She wins, playing white, Anna Ushenina, rating favourite from Ukraine. After 7 rounds the leader has 6.5 points.

Two Russian players – Olga Girya and Anastasia Bodnaruk are behind Slovenian player in a half point. They both have made a sensation by winning with black their more titular opponents. Olga has won Europe Champion 2005, the winner of Ural Cup 2006 and the leader of team Ukraine Kateryna Lahno. Anastasia has won the leader of Armenian team Elina Danielian. 5 another players have also 5,5 points.

At the 8th round Girya will play white against Muzychuk. Bondaruk will play white against Ushenina.

At “B” tournament we have one leader. Khodjayan Vardan has won all the 7 games. FIDE Master Sergey Koroshenko is behind the leader in a half point.

The winner’s names in all the tournaments will be known on Sunday, the 10th of February.
