The children’s tournament between the champions of schools at International Festival «Moscow Open 2008» was finished. There were 403 participants. The winners were fixed in 5 age categories – before 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 years – between boys and girls.
The winners of the Festival in every age category have got the possibility to take part in Europe Cup between school champions which will be held this year in Greece. All the medalists of the Tournament were awarded with Cups and signs of International School Chess Union.
Viacheslav Beresnev, the President of Moscow Chess Federation, Boris Spasskiy, the 10th World Champion in chess, Vasiliy Zhukov, rector of Russian State Social University congratulated the young players at the closing ceremony.
Viacheslav Beresnev told that he hoped to meet all the players at the Festival “Moscow Open 2009”. He also said good luck to the winners at the future Europe Cup.
Boris Spasskiy, the main arbiter of «Moscow Open 2008» after congratulation told about his first games at International Festivals. Ex-champion of the World said good luck to everybody and wished them to win their future games. He hoped that many of them would become good friends after meetings at chessboards.
Vasiliy Zhukov, the rector of RSSU was sure that many of the children who were on the stage of RSSU as the winners of the Festival “Moscow Open 2008” would stay on the victory podium as source of pride of their country – as sportsmen, rector, minister…
Zhukov noted that chess is the festival of intellect, will and purpose. It opens the doors to the future for many people.
